Update on amalgamation

After months of meetings by committees of both churches, the congregations of Queen St. United and St. Margaret's United began worshipping together in the St. Margaret's sanctuary on Nov. 23, 2008. On Sunday, May 31, 2009, the congregations of St. Margaret's United and Queen St. United, in separate votes, voted in favour of the following motion:

"Moved that St. Margaret's/Queen St. United Church, called to God's purpose, commits to undertake with Queen St./St. Margaret's United Church the next steps, including developing a vision, mission, and a new name, for an amalgamated congregation." A new joint amalgamation committee was formed to proceed with the next steps involved in making a formal amalgamation a reality.
Click here for Queen St. United web site Until the amalgamation is formally completed, the ministers, music directors and other staff of both churches will continue to serve their respective congregations, and will jointly participate in the planning and carrying out of our combined worship services. Each congregation will maintain its own identity. That means that if you currently give to either church by loose offering, you will need to use the envelopes available in the pews to designate whether you wish to donate to Queen St. or St. Margaret's. Also, some Queen St. activities will continue to take place in the Queen St. building, while others will move to the St. Margaret's location.

Amalgamation Team members from St. Margaret's are:
Allan Baer, Jan Hartgerink, Lesley Kimble,Dan Norman, Norman Rice, Ron Swain, Marie Miller, Anne Mansfield.
Representative from Kingston Presbytery : Lynn Freeman.

What's Up at St. Margaret's?
Eight new banners, dedicated during our worship on Thanksgiving Sunday now adorn our sanctuary. Representing the seasons of the church year, each banner is a memorial honouring an individual or group.

In a busy, confusing world it's good to know that we do not have to face our challenges alone. At St. Margaret's, we believe that by deepening our relationship with God and one another we can discover the spiritual resources we need to meet the demands of modern living.

We believe a church should be a community of people who love one another, challenge one another, and support one another as they work together to further God's work in the world. Each week we gather in worship to deepen our relationship with God and discover where God is at work in our lives and world.

Our Worship is a mixture of traditional and contemporary. A senior choir, the incorporation of visual projection technology and the occasional drama presentation enhance the worship experience. Music may be accompanied by the organ, piano, clarinet or percussion. About once a month, our New Sounds group adds guitars to the musical mix. Plus, we occasionally feature new music in the form of original hymns from our "composer-in-residence".
